Georgian’s love to ride bicycles, both young and old.  Many for fun and some ride for exercise.  Others ride to run errands or to commute to and from school or work.  Unfortunately, the roads of Georgia do not have enough bike lanes and most cities have ordinances that prohibit riding on the sidewalk.  This creates a risk to people on bikes with a high number of vehicles on the roads.  In the metro Atlanta area, with the extremely high traffic volume, this danger is high.  With the added risk or distracted drivers on cell phones, the chance for being injured on a bicycle grows even higher.  If a car hits you on a bicycle, or even runs you off of the road, and injures you, we can help.  We have helped many injured bicyclists who have been injured because of the negligence and carelessness of car drivers who are not paying attention.  Many times, we can find additional insurance to pay for the damages beyond what is on the at fault vehicle.

The experienced injury lawyers at Dan Chapman & Associates are ready to help bicycle accident victims and families figure out all of their options for seeking the compensation and we will help fight the insurance company to get you the money and the justice you deserve. If you or a loved one has been hurt in a bicycle accident, do not hesitate to contact Dan Chapman & Associates for answers to your questions. Bicycle Accident Attorneys

The Rights of Bicycle Riders On Georgia Roads

Every vehicle that travels on a road or street in Georgia must take care to follow the rules of the road. The rules of the road apply to the drivers of cars, trucks and motorcycles, but they also apply to bicycle riders.  These rules of the road address such matters as speeding, passing, proper lane changes, and yielding the right of way.

Because bicyclists have the same obligations as motor vehicles to follow the rules of the road, they also enjoy the same protections under the law that motor vehicle drivers have.  This means when the driver of a car breaks one of the rules of the road, such as failing to yield the right of way to a person on a bicycle, and hits and injures the person riding the bike, the driver’s automobile insurance must pay compensation to the injured bicyclist for the injuries, harms and losses suffered in the bicycle accident. It is very important to have an experienced injury attorney on your side before you speak to an insurance company, because they will often try to place fault on the injured bicycle rider.  If you give a recorded statement without a lawyer watching out for you, the insurance adjuster could trick you into saying things in a way to cause you to lose the right to seek compensation.  If they can place fault on the bicycle rider, of at least 50%, this can eliminate the riders chance at a recovery for their injuries.  Georgia law calls this comparative negligence.
